Over 20,000 Irish company start-ups formed so far this year.

So far this year, we've seen the formation of 20,102 new Irish companies - an average of over 61 start-ups per day - an increase of 6.8% on the same period in 2016 (18,825).

Professional services remains the most popular industry for Irish start-ups with 19.5% (3,919) operating in this sector - these companies would typically be associated with Accounting, Admin, Marketing, Engineering, HR, Investigation, Legal Services etc.

The finance and social & personal sectors were the second and third most popular industries for start-ups and accounted for 3,061 and 2,126 new companies respectively. Construction and wholesale & retail round out the top 5 most popular industries with 1,986 and 1,863 start-ups between them.

Approximately 46% of start-ups in 2017 are based in Dublin with a further 10% in Cork. Galway, Kildare and Meath are next on the list and account for almost 12% of new companies between them.
